Board Responsibilities
​​Specific Responsibilities of the Director, PR & Communications
The Director, PR & Communications is focused on communicating the goals of the organization internally (to members) and externally (to target audiences). This role strategically leverages owned and earned media to support fundraising, events and other organizational initiatives. A successful Director, PR & Communications will guide the organization’s strategy for creating relevant, on-trend content that provides value to our audiences.
2024 Goals (Draft to be finalized along with 2024 Board by EOY)

Establish key messaging to guide organizational objectives (blog calendar, sponsorship packet, etc.)
-
Lead media relations efforts (media lists, press releases, pitches, etc.)
-
Lead editorial calendar (will work with each lead to layer in their tactics on a quarterly basis)

Update and maintain 3-year earned and owned portions of communications strategy
-
Create, distribute and present quarterly performance reports
-
Build and manage PR & Communications volunteer committee
General Board Responsibilities
Mission
Empower Black, Charlotte-based women to shake the table in the communication space through perspective, experience and advocacy.

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:

carrying out the mission and purposes of the organization
-
strategic and organizational planning
-
ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
-
fundraising and resource development
-
approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
-
enhancing the organization’s public image
-
assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
All board members are expected to contribute 12 hours/month for the duration of their position. Responsibilities have been divided accordingly.

Expectations of all Board Members
Each individual board member is expected to:

know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
-
faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
-
serve as active advocates for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
-
leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission
-
help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy
-
prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
-
be reachable within 48 business hours (unless reasonable, prior notice is given)
-
follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
-
maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization
-
support social and digital efforts by creating, publishing and engaging with content
