Board Responsibilities
​​Specific Responsibilities of the Director, Memberships

The Director, Memberships is focused on the entire membership lifecycle of Let’s Shake the Table, Inc. from recruiting new members to building and retaining loyalty among existing members. This role evaluates and executes organizational opportunities to amplify the membership experience, including but not limited to member communications, members-only events, networking opportunities, etc.

2024 Goals

  • Develop and lead quarterly member communications

  • Work in tandem with events, digital marketing and PR to create and promote member-specific activities

  • Maintain and update 3-year membership strategy

  • Manage and report on membership database (+growth)

  • Regularly prioritize 1:1 member meetings to garner feedback and develop deep-rooted relationships on behalf of Let’s Shake the Table, Inc.

 

General Board Responsibilities

Mission

Empower Black, Charlotte-based women to shake the table in the communication space through perspective, experience and advocacy.

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:

  • carrying out the mission and purposes of the organization

  • strategic and organizational planning

  • ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management

  • fundraising and resource development

  • approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services

  • enhancing the organization’s public image

  • assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization

 

All board members are expected to contribute 12 hours/month for the duration of their position. Responsibilities have been divided accordingly.

Expectations of all Board Members

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs

  • faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements

  • serve as active advocates for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission

  • leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission

  • help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy

  • prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings

  • be reachable within 48 business hours (unless reasonable, prior notice is given)

  • follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions

  • maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization

  • support social and digital efforts by creating, publishing and engaging with content
